Our sliding door was always a bit too heavy to close

The sliding door on our Pössl Roadcruiser 640 works fine. It just doesn’t close on its own. You have to pull it shut from the inside, and the original handle isn’t really built for that. It’s small, sits flat against the door, and you grab it with two or three fingers. Then you pull with a short, awkward motion until the door clicks shut.

That works fine a hundred times in a row. And then one time you’re standing there with wet hands or groceries under your arm, and your fingers slip right off.

Prickstop sent us the WOMOFIX EasyGrip, a longer sliding door handle for the camper. Below is what it is, why it works, and who it makes sense for.

What is the WOMOFIX EasyGrip

The EasyGrip is a handle you mount on the inside of the sliding door, in place of the original handle. The difference is the length: it’s longer than the standard handle, so you can wrap your whole hand around it instead of just a couple of fingers.

Why a longer handle really makes a difference

This is simple physics, nothing fancy. A longer handle means a bigger lever arm. For the same amount of force from you, that gives more effect at the door, so you need less force to pull it shut.

On top of that, you get more grip. With your whole hand around a handle, you’re more stable than with three fingers behind a small edge. You notice this most when it’s raining, when you’re in a hurry, or when you’re holding something with your other hand.

It’s not a life-changing invention. It’s a handle. But it’s the kind of upgrade where, after two weeks, you no longer remember what it was like before.

Installation

The EasyGrip replaces the original handle 1:1 (OEM reference 73553955) using the existing screw holes. So there’s no drilling and no modifications to the door needed: unscrew the old handle, screw on the new one. All you have to do is unscrew a small hex bolt, take off the old handle, put the new one on, and put the hex bolt back. It took us less than 2 minutes!

One thing you definitely want to know before ordering: the handle fits the Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, and Citroën Jumper (X250/X290), model year 2006 onward. Driving a different base vehicle? Check first whether your sliding door has the same mounting setup.

Who this makes sense for

This handle is worth it if:

  • Your sliding door needs to be pulled shut from the inside
  • The original handle is small or sits flat against the door
  • You regularly get in and out with your hands full
  • You’re converting a van yourself and the standard handle doesn’t cut it

Less useful if your sliding door closes electrically, or if you already have a handle that feels good in the hand.

What we think of it

We’ve been using it for a while now. The door closes noticeably more easily and we no longer miss our grip.

If you’re looking for a sliding door handle for your camper and your current handle isn’t cutting it, this is one of the cheapest upgrades you can make to your camper.
